Barry spoke about the spiritual nature of his multi-modal approach to art work in an email interview. This Indigenous Australian artist works within the educational system to bring about understanding between cultures. His role is one of Participation Officer for Catholic Education in Brisbane, Australia.

Installation Art as an Expression of Spirituality

During the email dialogue Barry said "Being able to express my spirituality through my art, means confirming my beliefs and expanding my understanding. This deepening of understanding comes about in both profound and subtle ways.

He goes on to explain that for him, his delving into the history of both art and spirituality are entwined. These understandings journey through time together.

He has represented this spiraling manifestation of the journey, by creating five mobile banners for the Pray2010 conference to be held in Brisbane in July 2010. Through these banners, pictured below, Barry's stories are given context and substance.

Indigenous Painting and Performance Art

The outcome of this painting process is always rewarding, Barry explained, that through the artistic process he feels renewed and motivated. The creation of spiraling motivates and inspires him. He realises more and more that there are benefits to both himself and those who listen, participate and interact when he shares the process with others.
