Following up after an interview is important, and many people forget that a thank you letter is the first task that you should complete the minute you are done with the interview. The thank you letter lets people know that you are polite and that you are grateful for the chance to speak to the human resource department about a potential job. A thank you note may not seem like much, but a little bit of good manners goes a long way when you are looking for a job.

Collect Contact Information at the Interview

Collect the business cards of everyone who interviewed you while you are at the interview. Take the time to get to know everyone's name and face so that you remember exactly who you are sending emails and letters to. Make notes of the interview so that you can add a personal remark in each thank you letter that you write.

Email Thank You Letters to Everyone Who Interviewed You

Email a thank you note first thing when you get home. An emailed thank you note should be written with the same formal grammar and punctuation that a hand written thank you note would be written in. Do not use slang or act overly familiar in the note. This email is not an email to a buddy, but it is an email to a potential boss.

Send a Thank You Letter via Post

Print out a hard copy of a thank you note and send it in the postal mail after you have emailed the people who interviewed you. This helps because your email may have gotten lost or the person who you emailed may not have checked their email. It also allows you to add any additional information that you might have forgotten during the interview and it will give you another chance to ask questions.
